NewsFire 1.3

I am pleased to announce the immediate release of NewsFire 1.3, the sexiest RSS feed reader on Mac OS X.

NewsFire 1.3 is a major release with many new and improved features.

NewsFire has undergone a serious makeover. With its new streamlined borderless appearance and support for site icons, NewsFire is more beautiful than ever. Usability has been improved with newly designed web feed and search feed addition panels, a ‘next new item’ button, and improved menu layout. There have also been major internal changes, with performance improvements across the board and a brand new, more fault-tolerant and feature-rich RSS/Atom parser.

Last but not least, NewsFire 1.3 is released as a Universal binary, making NewsFire the first RSS reader on the platform to take full advantage of the amazing speed of Apple’s new Intel Core Duo Macs.

Version 1.3 lays a strong foundation for future innovation while preserving NewsFire’s core attributes – simplicity with sophistication, ease-of-use, style and beauty.

Dave,
Impressive work.
Congrats!

Bastiaan

Rob...

Damn straight it’s the sexiest. Great work and as always, thank you.

Tim...

Great work, Dave! I’m always astounded by the elegance of this app.

Lewis...

I’ve tried all the rest, and Newsfire is always the best. And now its gotten even better.

Maybe we can get this to the Digg front page! That would be some great advertising. It might even get on the Diggnation podcast. Kevin might need a great RSS reader for his new (now old after Macworld) powerbook.

Dannny...

do you really want to say the “Angelina Jolie of applications”? Because, you know, she stole Brad Pitt and she is overall kind of scary.

Matt...

I was surprised when, after installing this version, NewsFire would bounce once, but not run.

I realized after installation that this version is Tiger-only, which might be why. Didn’t notice that before the install.

gummi...

Dave, I was an early adopter of Newsfire and I bought the app, but after a few months of use I decided to go back to NetNewsWire. I was unhappy about the performance issues and several other things that irked me a little bit.

However, after trying out this new update I’m a little flabbergasted by the improvements. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if I switch back, again. Well done.

Dave – I really love the new version. Great work.

Horst...

Congratulations bringing 1.3 out of beta :D Can’t wait what the future will bring :)

Sean...

Can’t say enough good things about NewsFire. It has become my all-time favorite newsreader and has replaced several Safari bookmarks.

This release makes it even better. Keep up the good work.

James...

Dave, absolutely stunning. Been using the betas for a while. Gorgeous as ever! You rock.

Will...

After having run the betas for quite some time, I can attest, NewsFire 1.3 is solid is a rock. No hesitations about this being my most-run application, all-day, every-day for RSS reading.

Thanks, Dave. I hope you’ve set a pace you can keep up with, we’re going to get addicted to these releases! :)

-Will

Joel...

Congratulations on the release! Keep up the good work.

Bruce...

I agree, very impressive. I just switched from NetNewsWire and find it to be faster and less of a resource hog for some reason.

Is there a place to ask questions about the functionality? For instance, is there a way to reorder the list of downloads? Also, is there a way to edit the names of each subscription? Didn’t come across any way to accomplish these things. Thanks for any assistance.

Oliver...

Hello :)

the performance improvements are really great! I’m using a bunch of smart feeds which filter other smart feeds and have many many postings in NewsFire, so doing standard tasks like opening the app :) was a real pain. It’s still not that fast as I like but ok :).

The new design however seems be between two worlds. It’s iTunes 6 and it’s Brushed Metal. Why not go totally to the new look of Mail, iTunes, iLife 6 etc.?

Bye :)

James...

I was wondering if you plan on making graphite versions of your custom buttons? ie. Mark All Read and the Next button. Not the end of the world, but would be greatly appreciated.

Ange...

Great work! Congrats!

john...

wonderful! world class design.

1 small bug. . Importing OPML from RSS Menu XML export doesn’t work. Complains of invalid XML, making it difficult to migrate to this great new app

Ryan...

Great work – the performance improvement is outstanding! I used to have to wait for my 500 or so feeds to load; now it comes up quick. I like the interface tweaks too. Thanks!

Crawford...

Wonderful release. This program finally helped me figure out what RSS was about. It is a lightweight, simple, and focused tool that is absolutely intuitive. Bravo!

Horst...

@Bruce Saltzman: At least with changing the name of a subscription I think I can help :) Simply select the feed, hit option+i and click into the name label that somehow looks like it can’t be edited and edit it :) Same goes for the description field below the name field :)

Gabriel...

Great release! I love how you’ve prepared the UI for the emminent downfall of Brushed Metal in favor of the new app theme du jour. ;-)

Jason...

Great work!

But I use Firefox. Could you make it so I can discover feeds in Firefox? Also could it be automatic so I didn’t have to select a menu item or at least make it a button.

Cheers

Bob...

Hi, please consider adding iBlog to the list of blow writers in the preferences.

Torsten...

This software is just great!
I’m running a Mac mini with intel Core Duo and this software is so unbelievable fast, good looking. Everything a real Mac Application should be and much, much more.

Thanks David! :)

Bruno...

I would love, love, love, love if newsfire would sync with bloglines as I use bloglines at work and newsfire at home.

Rodney...

I LOVE this application. Could you add a browser to the next version? That is the one feature that would put this app. over the top.

Thanks for your work!
