Regarding the two bugs you mentioned, they are both tracked and planning to be fixed.

See bug 244099 (make search textfield resizable) and bug 329673 for some discussion regarding using native widgets.

For Camino 1.1 and beyond, we’ll probably go to 10.3 as requirement, and thus we may switch to the native search textfield (if anyone makes a patch).

Nice! More and more people should be able to enjoy this superb program.
Would it be possible to make this for Opera? Its not open source or so, so I doubt it, but it would be freaking awesome.
