NewsFire 1.4 (v62) Beta

The first beta of NewsFire 1.4 (v62) is now available for testing.

As hinted at in the previously posted screenshot, this beta of NewsFire brings some refinements to the downloads view. This includes the ability to view video content directly within NewsFire. In addition to this, a handful of performance issues have been tackled, and users with very large feed lists may notice a substantive improvement in usability.

Downloaded. Can’t wait to toy with the new functionality.

David,

Amazing. The performance now with my large number of feeds is impressive. Not only impressive but 100% usable. Well done, wow, what a difference from the old versions. (I bet you will improve the performance in the next releases, that’ll only make NewsFire even better than it already is).

Awesome. Again, thanks for looking into it.

Dave, whatever happened to the spining icon notifying when a feed was getting updated?

This beta has indeed improved my Newsfire experience, my large feed was bogging down previous to this version.

Nathaniel...

What about the ability to select multiple feeds at once for moving or adding to groups?

Chad...

Seems to have a bit of issues. I downloaded zefrank and it crashed as soon as it finished downloading, and then again halfway through playing. Any kind of log information I could send you?

Chad...

Had some initial hiccups, but I’m guessing it was my computer just being stupid. Slick and smooth, a worthy upgrade.

frankenstein...

i love the video podcast functionality but is there any chance of getting a full screen option? im a quicktime pro ownerr

Too bad. The new version still paralizes my internet connection. As soon as NewsFire ist checking my feeds, nothing in the net works anymore – no web, no mail – only NewsFire is working. The one and only way to reanimate my internet connection is to close NewsFire and wait for a few minutes (or to restart). “The other” RSS reader does not have this problem.
What a pity! I’d love to use NewsFire. It’s just so neat and well done!

fyi: wmv videos downloaded in newfire (which rely on 3rd party plugins/flip4mac) – play as audio and the video doesnt show.

David- Looks great s usual.

Something I’d really like to see, thouhg I may be in the minority, is when importing opml to have it rebuild the group structure and keep the feeds in their groups. Of course you would have to move everything in nested groups up one.

Thanks as usual.

Has the “Hide selected Feed” feature gone missing?

3 enhancement request please:

1. Right Click Contextual Menu Copy Feature to easily copy content from the feed article.

2. The ability to temporarily disable a feeds refresh by setting to ‘never’.

3. To save the feed cache to the harddrive a little more frequently to avoid data loss.

John...

Wow. Just…wow. Amazing speed increase in performance and reliability. I’ve switched to Newsfire full time now.

Joel...

Thanks for yet another great build! I’m still hoping that NewsFire would continue to check for new feeds in the background even if my Powerbook’s display is set to sleep.

Harry...

Awesome speed.

Is syncing (with bloglines or .mac or another method) anywhere in the Newsfire roadmap?

Dimitry...

Is there going to be ability to view all bookmarked (flagged) posts on one page or up top perhaps? I feel like flagging does very little at this point as those posts just keep getting moved down and eventually lost.

Thanks
Dimitry

Dimitry:

You can easily do that by using a SmartFeed with a ‘Item is flagged’ rule.

Mike...

Is there a way to get FeedRinse functionality with SmartFeeds. I don’t want to see the original / unfiltered feed.

I second the syncing request.

I would not hold my breath waiting for syncing in NewsFire. It’s not going to happen this year.

1 year later since my original comment requeswt above and still no enhancements :(

Has NewsFire fallen by the wayside of Xtorrent?
